family guy should've stayed dead. it came back, but in the
sense of the man who
came back in the tale of the monkey's paw...
it came back a mess, and appears unsavable.
what should have happened was not to get cancelled in the first place...
anyhow i've quite enjoyed the past few seasons, although season 3 was my
favorite personally.

traveler was a fairly similar scenario to drive and i
definitely agree it was a prime example of another network not only dropping
the ball, but then covering said metaphorical ball in gasoline and lighting it
on fire while poor children who cannot afford another watch - then proceeding
to run over all the children with a zamboni.
omg, how much do i love that analogy?!!
to give jewdo some credit, the cancelations of jericho, traveler and
journeyman (the three he cites as being un-worthy of such treatment)
did feel a lot like this. (actually, put the squashed bodies through a wood-
chipper first--i think that ought to cover it!)
but the difference here is that pain is spread over a couple of networks; fox
*spit* regularly puts me through this--and is likely to do it again with the
cancelation of new amsterdam...one of the higher-rated and well-received shows
dmfaust is referring to. is it perfect? far from it; i can think of a few
things i'd change right away *cough* no lead m/f chemistry *cough* (and a
couple of aspects i'd gnaw the hands off the writers in order to protect--
fathering children/omar). however...it has had better than average ratings
for the network (sometimes even winning the time slot!), has had quite a few
positive reviews, and yet none of that seems to be enough for the f*cking obtuse
executives.
when will the madness end?

to my mind that description also applies to their commisioning of season 6
of 'buffy the vampire slayer', and i'm of those children who got 'zambonied'.
everything that made the show what it was when it was on the wb was trashed on
fox, after season 5 i got joss whedon's autograph, and i mean face to
face, after season 6 i could have cheerfully throttled him, and it wouldn't
have happened but for fox.

if i am not mistaken, seasons 6 & 7 were ones that joss took a back seat on
(letting the other producers run the show)...i think to focus on angel and
firefly. you will probably want to check the credits to be sure, but few eps
were written (or directed) by him by this time.

but it was stillhis show and he was ultimately responsible for its quality and
content, and i believe it was developing firefly that distracted him, not
angel. anyway my point still holds, if fox hadn't commisioned s6 there
wouldn't have been anything for him to neglect, and fewer projects might have
improved the overall quailty of jw's output.

arrested developement, titus, 90's marvel comics shows (ratings went down when
fox started writing instead of marvel) futurama... really? can't think of any?
and they kick their movie franchises in the balls too *cough* avp *cough*...
or alien 3 and 4 if you want to get picky
