several groups have adopt x264 mp4 as the new standard, as they're smaller, faster to encode, better quality and play on mobile devices, ps3, xbox360 and so on without re-encoding. the downside is that they don't play on many standalone dvd players. because there are fewer groups doing xvid avi, in most cases it'll longer for the xvid to come out than previously, plus the x264 mp4 will come out quicker than the xvid avi did in the past so it will make it *seem* even longer if you're waiting for the xvid avi. groups doing x264: asap bajskorv c4tv d2v diverge ftp kyr lmao lol momentum sys tla yestv groups doing xvid: fqm 2hd momentum (after they've done x264) not sure about other groups at the moment so we may want to add to this list when we know for sure. i'm also not sure what eztvs policy is, they seem to be doing both of some eps and only one of others (even though both were released). whether that's intentional or not i don't know... i would have though if it were they'd do an announcement so i presume it's just a time management problem - with almost twice as may releases it'll take almost twice as long to get them listed. |

from what i understand, "the scene" is stopping the xvid .avi releases and going with the x264 .mp4 releases - not much eztv can do about it. |

not all scene groups are stopping, just some of them - others are against the idea (see the list a few posts earlier of which groups have made their preferences known). but it'll change things... fewer groups will be doing xvid so that means they won't be able to do all shows and they'll take longer (it'll seem even longer because the x264 is quicker to encode than xvid). |

pity because mp4 does not play on my standalone dvd i have to convert it and put it on disc, i usually drag the files to a pendrive.have noticed an awful lot of programmes still in the on tonight section which are no longer showing. however thanks a lot for the site as i am at present virtually housebound through illness and your site helps beat the boredom. thanks for all the effort |

i really hope that the scene groups dont stop doing the xvid/avi's. i understand that the x264/mp4's maybe a quicker encode. but from what i have seen the last little while is that the groups are getting the xvid/avi's out just as quick as the x264/mp4's, just they arent putting them up here but on another tracker which will remain unnamed. i do how the groups go back to the way they used to be with putting up there work here for the show's, i do really enjoy this site and the features it has. i also would like to thank the various groups for the work that they do do in bring the various shows and episodes to use here |

please stop uploading mp4. avi is much more universal. i use this sight religiously, but may switch to another site, or just look-up my own shows because mp4s are ridiculously inconvenient. im obviously not the only one who feels this way, so it would be great if you guys rectified this problem and went back to doing the great work you do. thanx guys. mp4/x264 sucks. |

i don't think the guys here at eztv can do anything, but i want to get my voice out there, so to speak. i understand the move to x264, i do, i just think that its not the right time. 90% of people won't have the hardware/software capable of playing these files (myself included) so its a little bit of a waste. maybe in a few years the change would be a lot simpler, but not now, its too soon, and its hurting the average user. i'd hate for this new format to be what stops me from using eztv, since i've been a loyal user for years, but i gotta see my shows! |

i agree entirely with this, nothing i use except my laptop can play x264 and i have found mysef visiting sites i would normally stay away from in order to get xvid or .avi. |

i am sorry but i have to agree with those who asks to stick with avi. i tried to watch several shows in mp4, but in one player the sound is ahead of the picture, in other - the picture is blurry. this is such a great site! with your help i 've watched all my fave shows. but if it goes this way i think ill have to go somewhere else... i am sorry |

well, pointless coming here now. tbp carries the xvid/avi files i need and there is where i will, reluctantly, go. eztv has become a useless site for me now. i'm not sure where people are saying the file sizes are smaller -- the same 1hr tv show in this new "format" are the same 350mb (or 175mb for the half-hour shows) as the tried-and-true defacto standard when i download them... i'm a bit miffed that rather than spend the time catering to the needs of the community whole, we've been washed aside and pushed into one standard only. this is how facebook does things -- force you to the new design, like it or leave it. well, i'm leaving it. since we can't delete our account on here, would someone with site admin privs please do me this final favor. cheers, |
