being able to hack something up and getting it to work is easy enough but there
is lots of problems with it. such as you need a place to put the comp that you
can still access and cable lengths s-video aint cheap. also it has to be off if
you wana watch tv if your poor like me and dont have cable tv. cause hardrives
spinning and tv antennas dont mix.

a simple xvid player is always very useful.

could any one with the philips dvp5960 answer this for me (as i'm considering
getting one).

i brought a cheap dk digital divx player a few years ago and it plays avi files
fine if they were ripped from a decent source e.g. a dvd rip. but it generally
goes out of sync when playing the tv rips from this site. generally where the
advert breaks have been cut out, or when a slight bit of breakup occurs. it
seems like unless the avi is of perfect quality it will go out of sync.

my question is, do the newer divx players have these symptoms? have you been
able to successfully play various tv shows from this site without sync problems?

...and if you guys don't want to burn stuff to dvd first have a look for a
sarotech media player (dvp-370 or 260 or 254) or a mediagate (mg-25 or 35)
they can also act as external hdd.

yes, i've been able to play many of the tv shows listed on this site with no
difficulty (no sync problems) on the dvp5960. the new firmware even allows you
to adjust the audio delay to correct some encodes if necessary.

just buy an xbox. put a mod chip and a larger hard drive in it
and go to xbox-
scene.com and find your way to obtaining xbox media center program. makes
watching all kinds of files a cinch on a tv.

i promise you this guy is right, well worth the investment. i originally got my
xbox modded cause i though it was cool to have all the game on the hdd and
emulated games (snes, nes, etc) now i don't know how i watched tv/movies without
it (i didn't) i now find myself with a 320gig hdd loaded with seasons of many
shows and tons of movies.
