this is the hbo series about a group of friends in san francisco coping with relationships, work,
and daily life. well, their version of daily life. is it realistic? not for most people, i would
guess. but, i still enjoyed watching. it was like an updated, gay male version of "sex and the
city". that might be enough of a description to make some people run in fright. i will watch this
second season.
the problem as i see it with this show is two-fold:
one, it isn't long enough. i don't mean that in the way that i'm just dying to see more. quite the opposite, in
fact. it literally feels like absolutely nothing happens in each episode and i suspect its because they are the
length of a half hour sitcom when this show is 100% a drama. it doesn't need to be game of thrones 55
minutes length. maybe 10-15 extra minutes per episode.
two, it comes across as written by a gay man in his 40's or 50's, who is nostalgic for the gay-days of his youth
back in the 80's when gay people still did half the stuff they do on this show. today's youth of gay men don't
do any of this stuff so if you're of a certain age it's very hard to appreciate the show.
an updated, gay male version of "sex and the city".
really? i didn't watch it much, but i thought that sitc was 1/2 to 1/3 comedy, like a less funny
ally mcbeal, whereas looking is just a straight up relationship and romance soap opera.
