i'm paying 50 euros a month for 20mb internet, telephone and cable tv.
its been working nonstop for months now, except for 20 mins at night every few
weeks when they update their network.
but then again, you live in the land of the free and home of the corporate bs.

comcast as a pretty good monopoly on cable internet connections. atleast it
seems like that to me. he would probably have to go dsl to change and keep
high speed internet.
i use to have comcast and i've never really had a problem. i got like 800kb/s
max dl. can't remember the upload but they limit it anyways.
right now i'm with brighthouse cable and i get about 800kb/s max dl and upload
is 60kb/s max.
i use to have a problem with brighthouse though. i would be connected to games
like wow and i would get d/ced every 15 minutes. i complained for i think 2
days or twice in one day and they came out and replaced some wires in our wall
or something and haven't had a problem since.
you should identify the problem. if you're using wireless or a wireless router
and your stuff keeps slowing down or d/cing in games where you have to
maintain a constant internet connection, then switch to wires, because
wireless is really shit.
if you're plugged directly into the modem and into the wall with wires, you
should call them and complain and tell them there is something wrong and they
need to come out and fix it. sometimes servers or something goes down or they
work on something and it slows your connection but that is rare and never
happens for more than a day or 2, usually less though i think.
what you need to do is keep calling them everyday and complaining about it. i
don't know why you would put up with a shitty internet for months, when it
costs like 40 to 50 dollars per month, unless it's on special.

wireless used to suck but it really isn't that bad nowadays. i
run all my stuff
through wifi now except for my primary system the router is sitting right next
to and don't have any issues with it at all. (gaming amd dpwm;pads on pc, wii,
and multiple 360s included.) but yeah, 90% of places i'd wager it's pretty
much
a choice between comcast cable and at+t dsl. not the greatest.
edit: ok it's doing the misordered posts again so... um. yeah. if this post
doesn't make sense as a reply to someone, keep reading. :d
yeah i guess i wouldn't know about today's wireless. it just gave me a lot of
trouble about 5 to 6 years ago or something when i tried it out. i actually
tried it out twice in 2 different apartments but same crap.
isn't it possible for things to interfere with wireless and your connection?
like say sattelite or wireless phones? not to mention it's easy for people to
piggy back off wireless internet?

i think you already spend more then that on drugs caliman
you talk more bullshit then i do...
if you continuously tap free wireless from places that offer it to customers
they trace you and report you to the police for theft of service... so please
go
ahead
besides the fact that like 80% of free wireless hotspots are horribly
unsecure, especially if your computer recognizes it as "free wireless
connection." anything that boasts about how free it is comes with a price.

i don't think so. it seems like they can still limit you on the basis of using
too much bandwidth, which isn't in their contracts. i'm actually surprised
they could get away with something so illegal. comcast is too big.

just to add a data point, in downstate illinois, comcast
recently bought our local cable company. our speeds have been unaffected
after 2 months; i still get 768k up even while running excessively many
torrents... good thing there's so many old people in this area.
hello, does the word "ageist" mean anything to you? ;-)
in our household, there's only two of us and we're both over 50. our service
provider (rogers) has just informed us that they have decided to start
charging exta for every gb used over a predetermined limit. apparently we were
using double what they thought we should on our *ahem* "unlimited" package.
rogers is doing that on top of being the worst traffic shapers in canada.
alternatives? in our town there are none, except for the telephone company
which does exactly the same thing. gouge, gouge, gouge.
