the simple fact is that this stuff doesn't come for free. honestly we would love to run the site without ads. it would be great. however, the staff cannot be expected to continually top up the funds every month, as it is completely unaffordable - we are not talking about $14 adsl connections here, it is a high intensity high bandwidth site, and it costs a lot to run. hopefully soon, it will be possible to take off these pop-ups, as they are apparently causing an issue. however it is not our policy, nor is it the content providers to allow trojans and/or virii. i have never encountered a warning about a virus. i'm not saying that it doesn't happen or that some of them do not contain something that shouldn't be there, however a lot of what av programs call trojans are not really the case. if you run something like ad-aware, that considers cookies as trojans - which they clearly aren't. |

it was indeed an april fools joke, you could still access it from clicking on several links on the fake page ![]() some issued have been resolved with disabling the popups on users account, please read the news on the front page of www.bt-chat.com ![]() also we have fixed a bug that apparently was stopping people from creating new threads on the forum. we are continuously looking for new ways to fund the site without the popups, one of them is our new audio ad system that we are waiting for the company to start launching, but have high expectations, which would allow us to remove all other advertisements from the site, and should cause no problems to the visitor. we have also found a problem with one of our new advertisers that caused ie users to not be able to access the site. we have since fixed this also and people shouldn't have any more problems. please people check our site and post on our forum with any problems, so we can try to fix them asap. i often forget to check the eztv forums, so your calls for help may end up unheard for a while. we have lots in store for bt-chat in the coming months, to hopefully make up for any troubles with these popups, we will of course keep everyone informed! thanks! |

something should be done about all the new torrents, that are misleading unsuspecting peers, to spend in some cases days of valuable bandwidth, only to discover that the file can only be opened by joining a porn website, or by subscribing to some other form of ploy to deceptively extort money from peers. so now the unsuspecting user has a huge file they just downloaded, and not wanting to contribute to this scam, stops the torrent, which drastically impairs there share ratio. it seems to me that these shady characters should all be tracked down and permanently banned. also some of these ploys are in rar format, which forces you to follow this same path just to get a password. come on what happened to sharing. |

that looks like a vista privileges problem. you might have to run the cmd window as administrator. poor poor vista ;p anyway...we are still trying to find out why this is happening, but have no luck replicating it on our end. |

nbtx i totally agree with skitzzzz. nobody is 'bugging' eztv and that post was anything but helpful. have also donated to bt-chat and won't be again because you cannot get support and in fact when ask for it you get snotograms! not only that but you get bombarded with p0rn0graphic or gambling ads. since adding the ad links to my restricted sites list (and don't tell me i shouldn't, i have a perfect right to add this filth to my blocked list and shouldn't be forced to watch it or be prevented from downloading torrents when i dont!!!). i for one can't get onto the #bt-chat on irc.efnet.net help site that you refer to?!? i get a message webpage cannot be displayed. maybe if the bt-chat help forum worked or was accessible ppl wouldn't post here. i cannot download any torrents, i get a popup telling me my settings do not allow this action. "your current settings do not allow this file to be downloaded". it's rather odd that i can no longer download torrents after adding the filth to my restricted list. cannot login, when i login in it doesn't recognise me. as for instructions for blocking ads by your method, well i do not see the "control panel" option that it says to click on. soooo, the site is currently completely and utterly useless, i cannot get any support, but i should not tell eztv about these problems, wonderful. |

we are still waiting on our new advertiser to get up and running before we can remove all the popups from the site which everyone, including us are very eager to do. we know the problems that people face with the popups, which is why you can disable the popups from your account after you login. as for the support, i have just setup our java chat client outside of the rest of the site. this can be visited now at http://www.bt-chat.com/help.php ![]() as for my previous posts...i'm only human, and when i get frustrated i vent like everyone else, so sorry if you felt they weren't useful at all. we will eventually get things going again away from all the popups and problems, we're just waiting on a few other things to happen first so that we can do that. |

i just have to express with all the adds popups and malware on all the torrent file links, i know these are 3th parties sites eztv heavely depends on. however these sites are getting anouying! i meen adds ok, but those adds that get forced down your though, and you need to hijack your computerback after just looses the fun. im not talking the add should go, im just saying can we do it without all the badpopups and scripts attempting to hijack your browser. hell yes, im frustrated everytime i try to download something i donot get my download but some other stupid things happends. its rusian rolete getting the torrent or some malware. these popup im talking about are realy bad. and is wasting the reputation of this site. i would not send a avg new computer user to this site couse ill know ill be cleaning it next day. now do not get me wrong i dont apresiate eztv. its great resource for your dose of scifi. but ill will finaly giveup on a site that only attempeds to hijack my browser and does everything i dont tell it to(its the 3th parties eztv depends on). its getting a security risk, its starting to look like some sleasy back alley site that cant be trusted, serving everything but what asked, please eztv, donot allow it to trash you reputation as a userfriendly and trusted resource. i find that eztv shold just simple only link anny site that is performing intended actions. or least warn peeple about the add flood that will come. i meen its rusian rolete clicking those [1][2][3] links. howabout [1(clean)][2(adds)][3(popups)] or such. i would like eztv to find a better solution then all this malware invested horror deal. im one no longer amuzed. this been going of for weeks. well you got me... if donating makes this go away then contact me for instuctions to collect., serously. please do. i would rather pay then have this malware nightmare goon. **notes** said a whole lot of bad things, but also said some good stuff. im sertianly serous about all i said. it sertianly ontopic if this endsups where i intended it(never used this forum). witch pages you link is what pages you send you visitors to, if they get hijacked somewhere by clicking one of your links then it isnt so silly they look at you. you have the ability to decide to link it or not. |

don't know if this is the correct area to post but... mininova may be closed down soon.... hxxp:\\www.theregister.co.uk/2008/05/19/mininova_faces_legal_action/ ![]() dutch anti-piracy body brein says it will ask a judge to halt all activities of dutch bittorrent-tracker mininova, which draws over 30 million unique visitors and five billion downloads a month. the site started in january 2005 as a successor to suprnova.org, which went offline in 2004 due to legal issues. mininova was already the ninth most googled word in 2006 and alexa and comscore now rank mininova well above swedish site the pirate bay. brein estimates the site earns thousands of euros per month by selling ad space. big advertisers include dutch rabobank, among others. video makes up 60 per cent of the downloads on mininova and only 19 per cent is music. however, brein claims 90 per cent of those files are illegal. the anti-piracy organisation did ask mininova to filter its search results, but couldn't reach an agreement even after negotiating for a year and a half. mininova-owner erik dubbelboer says he will proceed to court with full confidence. the site does have a notice and take down-policy just like youtube and if a copyright holder asks the site to remove a file, the site wil simply obey. "mininova is just too big to filter each file," he told dutch news site nu.nl. "this is the only proper way to do it." |
