right, to follow up on a few things. yes bt-chat has had issues. some of them our own fault, some of them not. i have a lot to say about the causes, being a coder i hold my hands up to the obvious issues. most of the problems are due to not having a lot of time. i have other coding obligations beyond the 2 sites here, and i would like to emphasize that none of us get payed for running this stuff. this last week, i know certain things have been up and down. there have been a few 'bugs' loitering around that i simply haven't had the time to rectify. some of them are efficiency issues, some of them are just silly glitches. none of them are wanted. subsequently, this week i have been working to eliminate as many bugs as possible whilst i have the chance. i would continue to watch this space however, as changes are afoot in bt-chat, which will benefit the whole community, and make the site a lot better as a result. (for the record, this weeks "fixing session" has been the cause of flaky rss etc - that stuff should now be fixed.) edit #2: with regard to activex and ie: that isn't us. its the ads. unfortunately ie isn't designed very well with regard to popup/download handling. ff certainly would be better. also the renderer is better, but that's a different matter. |

thank god i copy my posts before i click submit... sometimes people sign on a dotted line and it all ends there. 50 free mp3's, download unlimited crap here and there. advertising just gets a bad name for itself in general by associating with spyware company and allowing their anomalies. i think sometimes people that own some sites fall for the same crap in and find themselves in a contract they have to see through. winamp had a terrible time with their users complaining about the 50 free mp3s thing tagged onto their installer. if you look at the signature of the installer its been botched. nulsofts response was we just have to live with it until we for fill our obligation to our sponsors. i think the same is happening here and i feel sorry for bt-chat in a way. however a trojan is a trojan (unless its a false positive) and a lame one if its been detected by av. i think torrentspy is a lesson in history and if this continues bt-chat may follow in its footsteps. remember the police song walking in your footsteps? an old famous quote! they say meek shall inherit the earth. "hide and thou shall survive" |

why some people say trojan and others say not? the advertisers may indeed have a specific focus marketing to a an ip range and or country so even the site managers may not see what the hell is going down.... |

i would like to know who uses and who does not use party poker and why. i don't use party poker because i don't gamble and they use annoying popups and i don't trust companies that constantly try to shove its product down my throat left right and centre. the whole thing feels like a scam just by the look of it... case dismissed imo, the advert achieves the opposite of it's intentions! poorly misguided advertising techniques just lead to disrespect. bt-chat otherwise has an opportunity to get in good or bad. i know if i had a link on eztv i would be very careful not to fuck it. sure i'd get some adds maybe but i wouldn't shit in my own backyard in such a way. |
